Review by Diana Saenger

An energetic entrepreneur koala, Buster Moon (voice of Matthew McConaughey), hasn't had a hit show in his beautiful old theatre for a long time. The bank is threatening foreclosure so Buster decides to hold open auditions for all animals in preparation for staging a great singing competition. That’s the main plot of this adorable story with laughs all the way through.

An amazing voice cast (Scarlett Johansson, Taron Egerton, Leslie Jones, Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Nick Offerman, Seth McFarlane, Jennifer Saunders, John C. Reilly, and Peter Serafinowicz) brings these comical characters to life as written by English writer/director Garth Jennings.

Kids of all ages will enjoy the antics of the wondrous lizard-like creation of ancient Miss Crawly (voiced by Jennings himself), the odd-ball-eyed assistant to Buster Moon, and Johnny the young gorilla (Taron Egerton) who sings and plays piano, housewife pig Rosita (Reese Witherspoon) and her stage partner, the oversized but nimble pig Gunter (Nick Kroll), spiky haired rock guitarist hedgehog Ash (Scarlett Johansson) and more. In addition to the cavalcade of laughs, thrills, and heart, adults will enjoy music from Stevie Wonder, Leonard Cohen, Paul Anka and Paul McCartney. What more could you want in a family movie?
