For several years now there have been many films about our country at war and the brave men and women who put on that uniform to protect and save our country. 12 Strong (based on the book; 12 Strong: The Declassified True story of the Horse Soldiers by Doug Stanton) is a retaliation to 9/11 and the heroic military ready to get revenge.
Army Captain Mitch Nelson (Chris Hemsworth) was immediately ready to fight this war after watching the fall of the Twin Towers on TV. However, his wife Jean (Elsa Pataky) ia not ready to see her husband and a father to go, but understands it’s his duty.
Joining the US Forces in the Northern Afghanistan combat against the Taliban is the Afghan militia. These well-trained USA warriors have fought in many manners, but riding on horses is new to many of them, hence the unit nickname; the Horse Soldiers.
Enter General Abdul Rashid Dostrum (Navid Negahban), the leader of the Northern Alliance. He’s the one that demands they approach on horseback to be closer to the Taliban camps to make radio airstrike coordinates. One of the night flights in a Chinook helicopter flying above the mountains with little visibility is an intense scene. But shortly later the fight gets even more intense.
Captain Nelson’s men face extreme situations knowing that they are immensely outnumbered and outgunned by a ruthless enemy that would rather kill than take prisoners.
Those who are interested in history and our heroes.
